Home Care Packages

If you need a little extra help around the home, a Home Care Package could help. These government subsidies contribute to the cost of your care, reducing the financial burden and letting you remain at home for longer.

Home Caring is a registered Home Care Package provider. That means the government authorises us to provide home care services that meet your needs, including help around the house, transportation, and even finding employment.

How Do Home Care Packages Work?

Home Care Packages in The Maitland Region fall into two categories: My Aged Care Home Care Packages and NDIS Home Care Packages. Which you receive will depend on your age and circumstances. However, they both function in the same way. The government pays the lion’s share of your care costs while you contribute a small daily basic or income-tested fee. Then, you can use the funds in your account to buy the care services you need.

My Aged Care Home Care Packages are available through My Aged Care, a government department that serves older people needing care. The agency will assess your requirements and provide proportionate funding. Similarly, the NDIS provides Home Care Packages to people with disabilities. To obtain funding, you must apply and wait for an assessor to review your case, a process that can take several months.

Once you have funding, you can use it to pay for home care services. With Home Caring, you only pay for the care you need.

Home Care Package Levels In The Maitland Region

The level of funding you receive in The Maitland Region depends on your medical and physical requirements. Assessors will review your case and provide funds in proportion to the perceived need.

Here are the levels and how they might apply to your situation:

  • Home Care Package Level 1. A Level 1 Home Care Package is the most basic, providing a subsidy for people who need a helping hand around the house occasionally. People often use it when they need help with the dishes or cleaning the bathroom.
  • Home Care Package Level 2. A Level 2 Home Care Package is the next level up, designed for those requiring a bit more help. Care visitors might visit a couple of times daily to replace bedding, arrange medications, and assist with transportation.
  • Home Care Package Level 3. A Level 3 Home Care Package is for individuals with more pronounced care requirements. Assessors will usually reserve them for individuals with disabilities or conditions that prevent them from being mobile or performing household tasks themselves. It may also be necessary to provide this extra funding for social outings or educational pursuits.
  • Home Care Package Level 4. Finally, the Level 4 Home Care Package is for clients with the most profound physical disabilities and requirements. Many recipients of this subsidy live in SDA accommodation in The Maitland Region and require around-the-clock support for toileting, bathing, dressing, cooking, and eating. The Level 4 Aged Care Package will differ from the same package for someone under 65 with a disability. However, the funding limit is identical.

Even with government subsidies, you must still bear some of the cost of Home Care Packages if you have the means to do so. The government asks everyone participating in these schemes to pay either:

  • The “Basic Fee” (a fixed daily payment)
  • The “Income-Tested Fee” (a payment that varies with your income level)

You may also have to pay a transfer fee if you switch between providers.

These fees go into your care account. If you don’t use them, you can roll them over or reclaim them later, depending on the scheme you are on.
